Kiya's second update =)))))

hi there...

Greetings. I am writing this update with the lightest of heart.. The year 2009 is an entirely brand new year for kiya and this is only possible with God’s grace and your generosity.

Kiya completed her last two phases of her heartworm treatment on the 30th and 31st of December 2008. She is currently under strict rest for the entire month of January. On 1st February 2009, she will undergo a blood test to ensure that the heartworm larvae is absent from her circulatory system. Subsequently, on 1st June, she will take another blood test. The blood tests are mere precautionary measures to ensure that she is indeed heartworm free and that no relapse has occured… =)

Secondly, I have to publicly thank Dawn and her boyfriend, Gin for spreading Kiya’s need to be fostered, far and wide. A lovely lady, Dening and her boyfriend, Simon has readily taken in Kiya to foster her. Kiya now lives in a beautiful spacious apartment under the constant care of Dening. This is the best thing next to Kiya being adopted as at least, she’s out of a kennel. Most importantly, Kiya’s recovery can closely observed and she gets to enjoy the human attention that she dearly loves and constantly seeks.

Kiya has put on 3 kg of weight and her coat is beautiful and shiny now. You can see love and joy in her eyes. Kiya and I thank all of you as Kiya's treatment would not have been possible without your kind generosity. For those, who supported me emotionally and mentally, thank you too for always being there for me.

Receipts have been attached once again as a surety that your donations have only gone towards Kiya's treatment and boarding.

Leash the Kitten, please!

During CCN day, Yan Kai and I went to the cat's area to clean their cages. Then Mr Chooi came in with a red leash and put it around the white little kitten.

Mr Chooi:"We need to let it get use to the leash so that when it's older we can bring it out on a walk on a leash."

So next time, when you take him out to play remember to leash him (so that he can get used to it!)

hi ,

On 31st October 2008, I was on my way to school along kaki bukit when I saw a rottweiler along the road divider. when my father and I made a U turn, she was already lying down by the road divider. She was so weak that she didn’t even respond even when i approached it. It was quite a miracle that she had not been hit by any oncoming vehicle as she lay around a road bend. Even I had to occupy a lane just to get the attention of oncoming cars, much less that of dog lying still on a road !!

my dad and i had to drag her to the side of the road as she was too weak to get up and walk properly.

My dad and I brought her to the vet. Kiya ( as we named her) has two main problems:

Heartworms.

Kiya is suffering from heartworms. There are two stages, low and high and unfortunately, Kiya, falls into the latter category, her heart is already infested with heartworms and she needs immediate treatment. The approximate for her heartworm treatment alone with follow ups is $800-$1000. I have only two weeks grace before she has to go for her first treatment.

Hip Dysplasia

Kiya has very weak hind limbs due to hip dysplasia. Her femur does not lock properly into the hip’s socket and thus causes a her a pain as she walks. Only she will truly know the degree of pain that it causes her and I hope, with your help, we can reduce or even eliminate the pain altogether.. This surgery itself will amount to a minimum of a thousand.

Kiya is currently boarding at Mutts and Mittens. I am unable to take her home as I have 5 cats of my own. Kiya will be treated for heartworms first, then hip dysplasia.

Kiya is a very gentle and beautiful girl. She did not even bark throughout the entire rescue episode. I have been fostering and rescuing many kittens, and I have never sought help, much less financial help. For the first time, I am appealing for your help to help me save the life of this rottweiler.

Operation Sterilisation

Li Ting and I have decided to carry out an operation to sterilise the cats in school and control our school's cat population! But we need YOUR HELP!

We would need to borrow 3 crates from you guys to help capture the cats. The recommended crate is as follows:
Recommended one is the spring door crate. These crates are secure enough so the cat does not bang out of the crate, seemingly docile cats can go wild and mad when trapped..

The not recommended one is the yellow crate with SCREWS.

Also check out Li Ting's blog post for a rough guide to how sterilisation and trapping will proceed.

SAA cat gave birth!

This time to 4 kittens.. I think all of them may have different fathers.. There's a completely black one, a tabby and a grey/white one.. The last one I didn't manage to see.. The mother is so wary with her eyes all dilated that I didn't dare to touch her to see the last kitten..

But I think we should keep the school population of cats down.. At the rate they are reproducing, we would have many unwanted strays.. Plus, the Malay aunties feeding them doesn't help t keep the population down.. I think once we know how to spay the males, we should capture all the male cats into the TAF (my non-VeT friends call it the animal-torture chamber.. haha!) and perform whatever is necessary.. It's for the greater good to prevent unwanted strays..

Looks familiar? That's Dr David Hu from 3 years ago!!!!

As I filled in his full name for the survey yesterday, I found his Chinese name familiar and went to search my collection of photos. And wow.. I do know him from 3 years ago! No wonder he looks so familiar!!!! He was the mentor for my friend when we were on a 3-month research attachment programme at this research institute called Temasek Lifesciences Laboratories (TLL).

He was part of the Plant Functional Genomics Group (one of the research labs in TLL).. Guess he is more of a plant person than an animal person..

In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death. For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died. But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.

for cupped hand approach :Don't be a dick: recycle. Used kittens may be turned in to a local Kitten Recycling Center or PETA officeor turned into delicious pies. (is there such kitten recycling center... haha delicious pies?)

for plastic tube approach :Call Poison Control (this is indeed quite sarcastic,afterall ur sniffing kitten butt with gas)

for traffic cone :Obtain a plain, orange traffic cone (where to get this? on the road?)

the huffing bowl approach :Obtain a huffing bowl (for only £9.99 from your local newsagents) and give it a rinse.

tummy huff :If this is done properly, your kitten should emit a glow, frequently changing color. The glow will soon grow larger, and upon entering the glow you will feel the "deep-high pitched trance" as Andy Warhol described (using a quote,jus like the describtion of uncyclopedia) .

Meanwhile, Roland Tembo, the leader of the InGen team, is hunting for his prize trophy, a male Tyrannosaurus, using aT. rex baby to lure in its parents. When he returns to the camp, Nick frees the baby T. rex, taking it back to their trailer so Sarah can set its broken leg. Eddie and Kelly hide in a tree stand, while Malcolm returns to the trailer. As Tembo intended, the T. rex parents come searching for their son, and after getting it from Sarah and Nick, throw one half of the hinged trailer over a cliff in the process, with Malcolm, Nick, and Sarah inside. Eddie throws down a rope and tries to pull the trailer back up using one of the SUVs, but is killed when the T. rex returned. The trailer falls, but its occupants survive by holding on to the rope and are helped up by the InGen team. With all of the communications equipment destroyed in the attacks, both groups team up to reach the old InGen compound's radio station, right through a Velociraptor nesting site, while Dr. Harding suspects the T. rex parents will continue pursuing them.

On the way, Dieter Stark, Tembo's second in command, is eaten by Compsognathus. Just before reaching the InGen compound, a large number of the InGen team are attacked and eaten by Velociraptors. Malcolm and his friends pass through the field unharmed, but are attacked by Velociraptors and go into hiding. All three raptors are either killed or distracted, and the team make a run for the building, where they contact a rescue helicopter. As they fly away, they see that Tembo has finally caught an adult male Tyrannosaurus, preparing to ship it and the baby back to the mainland. When the ship carrying the dinosaurs arrives in San Diego, it crashes into the dock. A boarding party then finds out the gruesome reason why there was no one to slow it down. The entire crew is dead, which is largely unexplainable, seeing that the only dinosaur on the ship was a T-Rex, and therefore much too large to fit into intact human-sized quarters. While searching for survivors, a guard opens the cargo hold and unleashes the Tyrannosaurus, who storms into the city.

Malcolm and Sarah rush to the Jurassic Park arena to get the baby T. rex, who was brought separately by plane. As the adult runs through the city, causing immense damage, they bait it with its baby, luring it back into the ship's cargo hold. Ludlow, after all this still believing that a dinosaur park will work, attempts to take the baby out of the cargo hold. When Malcolm and Sarah close the dinosaurs in, Ludlow is trapped as well and eaten. As Malcolm, Sarah, and Kelly watch TV at home, the ship sails back to the Island. John Hammond says in an interview that the island must be preserved to allow the dinosaurs to survive.

Name

The name "Godzilla" is a rough romanization of Gojira (ゴジラ^?), a combination of two Japanese words: gorira (ゴリラ lit. "gorilla"^?) and kujira (クジラ lit. "whale"^?). At one planning stage, the concept of "Gojira" was described as "a cross between a gorilla and a whale," alluding to Godzilla's size, power and aquatic origin. A popular story is that "Gojira" was actually the nickname of a hulking stagehand at Toho Studio.^[7] The story has not been verified, however, because in the more than 50 years since the film's original release, no one claiming to be the employee has ever stepped forward, and no photographs of him have ever surfaced.

Described as atransitional form between aquatic and terrestrial vertebrates by Doctor Yamane in the original film, Godzilla is able to survive in the ocean for extended periods of time and is adept a fighter underwater as he is on land.

THE MOVIE

Dr. Niko "Nick" Tatapolous (Matthew Broderick), an NRC scientist, who happened to be in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (Ukraine) researching the effects of radiation on wildlife, is interrupted by the arrival of an agent of the U.S. State Department. He is sent to Panama, escorted by the military, to observe the wreckage of the recovered Japanese fishing ship (which had three gigantic claw marks on one side) and a set of massive dinosaur-like footprints in the grassy soil. The Frenchman is also there, observing the scene and introduces himself as an insurance agent. Aboard a military aircraft, Tatapolous identifies skin samples he recovered as belonging to an animal "unknown to science".

Gojira then heads to New York City, dragging three trawlers under the sea on the way, then creating havoc in the Fulton Fish Market, before rampaging through the city. Manhattan is evacuated and the military attempt to kill the monster, first luring it out with a huge pile of fish. It takes the bait, but then shrugs off small arms fire, and evades and destroys three pursuing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters. It escapes, but not before Nick realizes that the monster reproduces asexually, and is collecting food not only for itself, but also for its offspring. Nick is determined to find its nest.

However, a videotape from Panama is stolen by Nick's ex-girlfriend, Audrey Timmonds (Maria Pitillo), a would-be TV journalist for news channel "WIDF." Audrey originally intended to broadcast the tape herself, but her boss broadcasted it instead and mispronounced "Gojira" as "Godzilla." The military is outraged by the broadcasting of the classified tape and Nick is thrown off the team. Nick is then kidnapped by the Frenchman who introduces himself as Philippe Roaché, an agent of the DGSE, the French Secret Service. He and his team have been keeping close watch on events, and are now ready to help clear up the mess they feel responsible for, but cannot acknowledge.

The military lures it out again, into the waters of the Hudson River with three U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. Godzilla is torpedoed and seems to be dead. Meanwhile Nick and a French team, led by Roaché, surreptitiously followed by Audrey and cameraman Victor "Animal" Palotti (Hank Azaria), track Godzilla through the subway tunnels(underground train station??-ogawa) to the Madison Square Garden, finding hundreds of eggs. They start to lay explosives, but the eggs start to hatch. The Baby Godzillas begin to look for food, and since the team smell like fish, they become inevitable targets. After failing to contain the infants and losing several members of the team, the remaining four of them take refuge in a TV broadcast booth. Knowing that the Baby Godzillas will eventually force humanity into extinction if they escape, Nick, Audrey, and Animal alert the authorities, who order an immediate strike by a trio of F/A-18 Hornets. The four escape just before the building is destroyed, only for an extremely enraged Godzilla (who managed to survive the assault in the river) to emerge from the wreckage. The four make a getaway in a taxicab, and lure it to the Brooklyn Bridge where it becomes entangled in the steel suspension cables, and is an easy target for the fighters. After it is hit by several missiles, it screams in pain and falls to the ground, its heart beating slowly until it breathes its last breath.

As Nick, Audrey and Animal reconcile, Roaché quietly walks off with the videotape and calls Nick to tell him he will return it after "certain information" has been removed, and disappears into the night.

All seems well until we see in the smoking ruins of the Garden, a single egg has survived and hatches...

Scenes in Shanghai

I have just returned from my CDS trip in Shanghai. Just to share a heart-wrenching scene I saw that could have affect you as much as it has affect me.

In a dark pet shop in a tourist site, a brown toy poodle puppy was cramped into a small BIRD CAGE. It as no space to even stretch out itself or even move. It's back was already arched due to the cramped space.

Dozens of terrapins were cramped into a tank fit for only 5.

A tiny long-hair bunny was kept in cage no larger than itself.

Live guppies were packaged into plastic hearts filled with limited coloured water and air.

My tour mates bought a dozen of them as souvenirs for their friends- a souvenirs which couldn't even last a month, as the poor guppy would soon die either of starvation or lack of oxygen.

Sorry I wasn't able to stop them.

The pet shop was crowded with people exclaiming, "SO CUTE!" without being able to detect the flaws in the shop.

Sometimes, humans are worst than beasts.

Sorry I didn't take any photos as I couldn't stand the cruelty any longer. But as Vet Techs shouldn't we do something about it?

hey hey! let's have class outing! i have 2 suggestion.

first is a ubin sensory walk.

it costs around 33 bucks, including the walk, BUFFET LUNCH& transfer from changi point jetty. back to the nature to relax. note that i highlighted buffet lunch. heh. i think it's worth the money. minimum ppl to start the tour is 20. i guess it's good if we can go as a class rather then mixing with other ppl.

second is Kboxing.

heh. sorry, actually i wanted to Kbox for very long. jus that i have no company, so i think it'd be better to have you guys as company. heh.

Read this interesting article from The Straits Times yesterday on World section pg 17..

In Britain, the scientists are considering the injecting an egg of a cow or rabbit with human DNA. The resultant embryo would be 99.9% human and o.1% animal, from which stem cells can be extracted.

Is it ethical to conduct such Frankenstein experiments? Even if it's used for stem cell research, it's still a living being! Many religious groups are against this development in stem cell research.

Even though how much we may love our pets, I still cannot imagine having a children which is 0.1% of (probably) my dead dog. Imagine if he/she suddenly starts to stretch his/her ear with his/her foot?! O.O!

What do you think? Human-animal hybrid-ethical or not?

i mentioned about a one year old husky up for adoption on the tag board the other time

here's more details that i got from my friend

his neighbour found the abandoned male husky at East Coast Park.

he has kept it for a couple of months and have grown quite fond of Miki, who is really quite a lovely, playful dog.
he howls when tied up but otherwise loves to go for walks and is a good watch dog.

whilst he is friendly to familiar people, he hates cats & gets very jealous of other male dogs..
his neighbour is moving out of his rented place and doesn't want to put Miki into SPCA.

they hope that he'd be able to find a good home and maybe you might know someone who'd like to adopt a lovely male husky?

hello peeps! class chalet coming up coming mond- wed. YEH!

If anyone's interested just tell me & I'll double-check with the zoo staff to ensure that absolutely no purchase of tickets are required. Just in case ;D

i really want to chant this everywhere i go like sutra of a monk. but, it's kind of difficult. it is really simple, sweet yet impactful. after the few presentation on issues related to animal abuse in the form of aimal abuse, i really want to make a difference. but after thinking, i feel that i might as well die. almost everything that i use or eat undergoes animal testings, how to avoid using or consuming those products when i'm surrounded by it? let me give you an example. like the chinese say, both front& back of the hand is flesh. i can never avoid such things. maybe not in the near future. maybe by signing petitions can help. but how significant is it? no offence to those who suggested sigining of petition. but i was just thinking how much can we really help? poor animals. crap. god created humans to protect them, but look at what we've done. i deeply believe in karma. karma will fall on human sometime for doing such things on them.

all of the aboce is purely my own opinion of stuffs happenening arround us. no offence people. TC!

also. HAPPY ADVANCED CHINESE NEW YEAR!

hi people!

have you all seen the tick that han qun brought back from the zoo? its like freaking huge lah. crap. imagine working in the zoo, plucking all sizes of ticks& picking up shit. tough work indeed, but i still think its quite fun. right?

i bet you guys enjoyed the presentation by wei han's group today during aap. i laughed my ass of. well done people! heh heh.

another thing i must mention. we should all pray for the carcass(?) frozen and thawed consecutively for 4 weeks. crap shit. i'm not sure whether you all heard of this saying. when you see some animal go, you cry and think much about it after, you're considered compassionate. but if under the same circumstance, you dun cry and dun think much about it after, you're considered passionate. i still think that passionate = sicko at times. although i dun think i'll feel sad for long after seeing some animal pass on, cutting up an animal makes me feel sick. do you all feel the same thing?

1. 26th Jan- We have some CIP ~~shit~~ activity from 8.30am-1pm. Please get your consent forms signed and hand in on Friday.

2. We have TWO quizzes next week. AAP (Nervous System) on Tuesday's tutorial and BMic (Chapt 3 & 4) on Wednesday's 8am lecture.

3. CellB tutorial quiz may be on Wednesday (23th Jan) or on Friday. If we are able to do the tutorial quiz (on Mitosis/Meiosis) on Wednesday, there wouldn't be any lessons on Friday.

4. There is CellB lab this Friday (18th Jan) but not next Friday. (25th Jan)

The previous timing was arranged coz i thought there were no lectures. But the stupid blackboard suddenly got revived and there's an announcement that there is HPI lect on Monday at 12pm, where they would be giving out the papers.

And so CSAS would eat into the lect if it's at 1030am. SO i changed it to 10am at the same venue. So sorry for the confusion. Everything should be ok now. We shouldn't have Cell Bio lect since it's rumoured that it's half day. So all lessons end at 1pm. =)

Please be reminded to be punctual because 2 other teachers would be present other than Ms Lee. They would be judges for our speeches. It wouldn't be nice for them to wait, would it?

They are going by the index number so the 2 hour session wouldn't probably cover everyone. But ALL IS TO BE PRESENT as attendance would be marked and it would be nice to lend a little support for our friends standing out there.

My previous employer (i worked before i started poly) has this mongrel, Vickie, in the company (it's an industrial area in Tuas) but couldn't keep her there anymore so he wants to give her away. Currently, she's housed in his house but because he has another dog which is fighting with her for attention, he couldn't keep her. He already had her vaccinated and sterilized so don't worry about the costs. SO PLEASE HELP VICKIE, SHE'S ONLY A YEAR OLD!!

The things that was decided for CCN Day

1. Discussions on ACRES

It was decided that ACRES would only be involved in the promotion of public awareness and educational area. No mechandise would be sold.
ACRES would have their booth stationed outside Temasek Animal Facility(TAF).
The details about ACRES will be confirmed on Monday, 12th Nov 07.

2. Dicussions on Publicity

The posters are to be ready by Tuesday, 13th Nov 07.
It was decided that the posters would be put up on prominent areas around the campus.
The distribution of flyers could be made while the class walk their dogs on normal days to promote publicity if possible.

3. Discussion on the Booths

It was decided that the booths would contain:

3 Laptops
3 Printers
A 4rd laptop to display the postcard pictures.
Mutts & Mittens' merchandise.

It was decided that the class would be selling the M&M mechandise on the organisation's behalf in which all of the profits made be returned to them. ie. the class would not be getting the profit made by selling the mechandises.

4. A gentle reminder for the people bringing their pets

Pick up after your pets.
Be around with pets at all times.
Ensure that your pets are in good control.
Confirm with Delia that your are bringing your pet by Friday, 9th Nov 07.
If you have done so, please take a photo of your pet, write their names and give some description(The Cute Factor).

5. Other Details

It was decided that the 2 Malamutes (Sky and Ritz) from M&M would be coming. A staff from M&M would be there to supervise them.

I bought the print cartridges and paper already. (since i happened to be at Sim Lim Square, i bought it instead of Beng.) Altogether, i bought 6 cartridges with 216 post- card glossy paper. (it came with the ink might as well use it.. LOL!) btw, the total cost is $70. I was thinking why not set the price for the photos at $1 each. I think it would sell better since our cost price also not that high. And the my photos that i will be printing at $2. I wouldn't be printing a lot of my pictures lahz. Not good enough. >-<

Publicity ppl: Please take note of the various prices so you can help us write nice signs to be put up on our booth. Thanks. And remember the directional signs.

Cell Bio Lab
Cell Bio Lab will be on next friday (the friday after Deepavali). Actually it was meant to be last Friday. Mr Chueng called me early in the morning on Friday to ask if we could make it for lab that very day. Knowing that MANY OF YOU PONNED SCHOOL, I WAS LIKE "SHIT! WHAT TO DO!?" But i told him that we are not in the right attire and don't have lab coats so he moved it to next week. He's like so last minute lahz.. So remember to come to school next Friday worx!

Mr Jomer has informed me that our second idea which is the pet photography one. So i need a list of people who are able to bring their pets to school. Please be mindful that your pet must be tamed and is comfortable with crowds. Besides the pets, i need another volunteer photographer and at least 3 laptops. I would teach the photographer how to use an slr and the 3 person who volunteered their laptops how to use Photoshop CS 3 to edit photos.

Leying has kindly volunteered her Selphy printer so we can print instant 4R prints. I should also be able to borrow one from my cousin so we have 2!

Also, i need some of you to do the publicity posters and backdrops (like backgrounds for the people to pose). Publicity and backdrops would need around 10 people- to paint backdrops and design posters.

We needa discuss these issues soon. Probably after school at 11am on Friday. Tomorrow is a bit too rush coz i understand some of our classmates have already booked tennis and badminton courts for the 5 hour breaks.

CCN Day Part 2

Ok let me clear up some mist here..

1. Because another class in ASc is doing the haunted house, we may not be able to do it so we are thinking of another alternative, which is as Carole suggested the pet photography service.

2. In this pet photography service, we are bringing in our own pets, and not the others bring in their pets for us to photograph. Hence, we are providing the models.

3. To to our dear classmates who are planning to bring your pets, please make sure your pet is tamed and is clam in a crowded situation. We would need to arrange with Mr. Jomer where to place the animals when we have our lessons.

4. Regarding the bringing in of animals from MnM, I don't think it's possible because the animals there are not used to crowds and due to the fact that they are not our own pets we wouldn't know how to handle them when something crops up. We don't want any injuries!!!! If we are helping MnM, we could get from them a donation can or sell some of their merchandise. This is also a good time we can promote animal awareness.

Please note that the haunted house is still our first choice but i just submitted a proposal with these 2 ideas so it's up to the teachers to approve either one. But i would like to stress that the Pet Photography Service requires much less capital and effort than The Haunted House.

For the Pet Photography Service, we would only need 2 photographers, at most 4 laptops, 2 Sephy printers and a few packets of paper but we would need a lot of coordination.

I'm not saying that i prefer one idea to the other as of now, we can only leave it to the teachers to decide. But i hope that whatever the result, the class can give their full support. I do hope both ideas are ok with majority of the class. Due to some time constraints, i understand that i have made some rash decisions on my own. Sorry for that. >-<

CNN Day

We had a successful Bird Park outing yesterday with 10 people turning up.. We had much fun! Photos will be up soon on both my Picasa and the class's..

btw we also discussed about CNN Day, which falls on the 16 Nov, about 2-3 weeks after school starts..

From our discussion yesterday, we decided to do a Haunted House instead of the usual seeling of food and drinks on CNN Day.. if anyone strongly objects to this idea, please voice out..

if we were to go with the Haunted House idea, we would need a theme.. from what we discussed yesterday we came out with 3 themes..

-The Adam's Family
-Olden Shanghai Opera House
-18 Gates of Hell

Any other ideas, please contribute.. but please do consider our available resources and manpower.. Due to the limited time and the difficulty of setting up a Haunted House, i would need the full cooperation of the class..

Actually, Mr Jomer didn't inform me of anything but as a event photographer, i know that CNN falls on the 16th.. So Mr Jomer would need us to come up with a proposal soon.. and with all these brainstorming, it would be easier.. once our proposal is approved we have to get down to work as TIME IS LIMITED!!!!

Anyone have any plans for a class outing? I just thought of an idea:

Anyone wants go to to The Sinagapore Science Centre on 12th September 07 (Its a Wednesday.) Maybe we will meet at 11am at Jurong East MRT Interchange and we can either walk or take a bus there. There are Cafes and Mac at that place where we can have lunch.
Admission Prices are at $6.00 for an adult (Age 17 and abv) and $3.00 for Ages 16 and Below - Means you only need to pay $3.00 if your B-day hasn't arrive yet.

i guess Shermaine already know about this since this is about Ella from SHE.. she just lost her dog, Qiang Qiang, recently (as in he died) and she wrote a song for him.. she even encouraged others to take care of their pets and even care for the strays.. she also encouraged more Taiwanese to support the Guide Dogs for the Blind Society so it can be as established as the one in Japan..

When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend.

Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?" -- but then you'd relent and roll me over for a belly rub.

My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect.

We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice cream (I only got the cone because "ice cream is bad for dogs" you said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.

Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently, comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings, and when you fell in love.

She, now your wife, is not a "dog person" -- still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy.

Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement. I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time banished to another room, or to a dog crate. Oh, how I wanted to love them, but I became a prisoner of love."

As they began to grow, I became their friend. They clung to my fur and pulled themselves up on wobbly legs, poked fingers in my eyes, investigated my ears, and gave me kisses on my nose. I loved everything about them and their touch -- because your touch was now so infrequent -- and I would've defended them with my life if need be. I would sneak into their beds and listen to their worries and secret dreams, and together we waited for the sound of your car in the driveway.

There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered "yes" and changed the subject. I had gone from being "your dog" to "just a dog," and you resented every expenditure on my behalf.

Now, you have a new career opportunity in another city, and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your "family," but there was a time when I was your only family.

I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the animal shelter. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said "I know you will find a good home for her." They shrugged and gave you a pained look. They understand the realities facing a middle-aged dog, even one with "papers."

You had to pry your son's fingers loose from my collar as he screamed, "No, Daddy! Please don't let them take my dog!" And I worried for him, and what lessons you had just taught him about friendship and loyalty, about love and responsibility, and about respect for all life.

You gave me a good-bye pat on the head, avoided my eyes, and politely refused to take my collar and leash with you. You had a deadline to meet and now I have one, too. After you left, the two nice ladies said you probably knew about your upcoming move months ago and made no attempt to find me another good home. They shook their heads and asked "How could you?"

They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days ago.

At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you that you had changed your mind -- that this was all a bad dream... or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me.

When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far corner and waited. I heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end of the day, and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room. A blissfully quiet room.

She placed me on the table and rubbed my ears, and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. The prisoner of love had run out of days.

As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she bears weighs heavily on her, and I know that, the same way I knew your every mood.

She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to comfort you so many years ago.

She expertly slid the hypodermic needle into my vein. As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured "How could you?"

Perhaps because she understood my dogspeak, she said "I'm so sorry." She hugged me, and hurriedly explained it was her job to make sure I went to a better place, where I wouldn't be ignored or abused or abandoned, or have to fend for myself --a place of love and light so very different from this earthly place.

And with my last bit of energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my "How could you?" was not directed at her. It was directed at you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of you. I will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life continue to show you so much loyalty.

cohen told me that a family has been going down to visit milo for around 3 times with their kids. they live in landed property. so, chances are high that milo will be out extremely very soon. it's good news! YEH!

hi guys. i'll melt the blog since you're saying that the blog is freezing. why don't you guys blog instead. it's better then nothing. hurhur. it's a busy week, so much work to do. especially maths. maths make me mad! all the best! hols coming up extremely soon!

anyways, the frequency most of us go to M&M is getting lesser. hmmm. maybe too much work already. i went down on wed, milo looks fine lah. i didn't bring her out for walk. i didn't bring any dog out for walk, it was a bad time to go yest. it was raining so heavily till the extent that the water pipe burst. so M&M had no water supply for duno how long& there was no electricity also. should be alright already. hurhur. anyways, milo have 2 potential adopters, but i duno when will they be going down to see her. another thing, delia's friend offered to pay for the full expense for milo. THANKS A MILLION ahhhh. i'm going down tml, anyone wants to join?

hello all! i'll be escorting someone to see milo this sunday. hopefully things go well. if the person is really interested& he/ she have the ability to take care of milo well, i'll tell mr cohen& most likely, she'll go for a 1 week home stay. then we'll see how. that's all for now i guess, shall update you all further when i have more information.
